Brief Description: This funky new addition to the Vancouver food scene brings us something we haven’t seen here before; authentic Neapolitan pizza. Yes, the real deal!

My last post was all about grains and healthy living. I talked about miso soup (yawn) and salads (double yawn). Yes, yes…I know that eating healthy is good for me. You know it’s good for you too but surely you’d much rather daydream of pizza (really, really good pizza)? I thought as much. It’s like I know you too well.

You want it, you got it! Here is some pizza porn to get your day-dreams in full swing. They were taken from my most recent trip to Nicli Antica Pizzeria. And, yes, the pizzas taste as good as they look.

Since opening in February, I have been back to Nicli many times and I’m happy to report that the quality has remained consistently high. These are fantastic pizzas, folks. If you haven’t been, you should. End of story.

The Diavola (first picture) is meaty, with a hint of spice. As is the case with all of the pizzas at Nicli, the ingredients are simple and unfussy. You will only find tomato, parmigiano, fior di latte, hot sopressatta (a cured dry salami), basil, and a drizzle of chili oil, on this pizza. And that’s all it needs.

The Funghi (below) is even less fussy with a simple adornment of tomato, parmigiano, fior di latte, mushrooms and basil. Nicli lives the saying “Less is more”. Their doughs aren’t filled with preservatives, the tomato sauce is not complicated with added herbs or sugars, and the toppings are simple and fresh. They have it right and it is evident in the flavour.

Seriously…what are you waiting for? These pizzas are amongst the best in Vancouver (depending on your tastes, maybe even the best).

Final Thoughts: Nicli is still hitting it out of the park with their authentic Neapolitan pizza. They’ve yet to put a foot wrong with me so I will be returning.
